The shim: measuring a thin part right
The shim: measuring a thin part right: a 50-second reenactment recorded in the KELIBRON 3D lab, with English captions. The steps below are the captions in order, and you can do the same measurement yourself in the lab.
What happens in the video
- 0:00 The shim: measuring a thin part right
- 0:05 Close the faces and check the zero before the part goes in.
- 0:10 Lay the 0.5 mm shim flat between the faces: a thin part must sit square.
- 0:17 Close with the ratchet, two or three clicks: the same force every time.
- 0:25 The sleeve shows a half-millimetre line: add 0.5 mm before the thimble.
- 0:31 Half a millimetre on the sleeve plus one thimble division: still inside the band.
- 0:39 Hold the frame, not the sleeve; keep the axis square to the part.
