Length measurement in a physics practical
Length measurement in a physics practical: a 43-second reenactment recorded in the KELIBRON 3D lab, with English captions. The steps below are the captions in order, and you can do the same measurement yourself in the lab.
What happens in the video
- 0:00 Length measurement in a physics practical
- 0:05 Jaws closed: vernier 0 is right of main-scale 0, so the zero error is +0.06 mm.
- 0:11 Measure the outside diameter. A vernier caliper cannot be re-zeroed: write the reading down as it is.
- 0:17 Inside jaws in the bore, opened across the diameter. Write this reading down too.
- 0:24 Beam end on the rim, depth rod down to the bottom. Third reading.
- 0:31 Subtract the zero error from each reading. Depth: 20.12 − 0.06 = 20.06 mm.
