What happens in the video

  1. 0:00 Plan the measurement before touching the part
  2. 0:05 First look: the stepped shaft has Ø20 and Ø32 sections; the large one has limits 31.95–32.05 mm.
  3. 0:11 Compare: the tolerance band is 0.10 mm wide; the digital caliper's MPE is 0.02 mm.
  4. 0:17 0.10 / 0.02 = 5, short of the ten-to-one rule: use the caliper with care, and switch to a micrometer near the limits.
  5. 0:23 First direction: outside jaws deep and square.
  6. 0:30 Close gently until both faces just touch.
  7. 0:38 The reading comes from the measurement: judge it against the tolerance band.
  8. 0:44 Lift off, then seat again.
  9. 0:50 Repeat: same spot, once more.
  10. 1:03 Two readings agree, so this size can be recorded with confidence.
  11. 1:09 Record both readings and both verdicts.
